Beran's Hope Space Station

Irminthok, Chaos world

This website is dedicated to my campaign taking place in the Dark Heresy RPG published by Black Industries. I will at times publish my own material used in my campaign. The material is based on the Warhammer 40.000 background created by Games Workshop, IP rights currently held by Fantasy Flight Games.

Using my stuff...
I have absolutely no problems with anyone copying my stuff from these pages. However please don't copy my stuff to your own website and such, post a link to my page instead. It just seems rude to take other peoples work without asking first. The pictures used here are from the Nasa web site. Contact: Feel free to drop me a line if you feel like it. Perhaps some comments or suggestions.

Beran's Hope

This Spacestation is located in the Umeris system; a system not far from the Imperial space of the Markayn Marches.
The station has been built in to an asteroid that lies within the asteroid field in the rings of the gas giant Umeris III, making it almost impossible to locate unless you know it precise location beforehand. Access to the station is restricted by the asteroid field, since only smaller ships are capable of navigating the field. Larger ships need to take a shuttle in order to reach the station.
The station transmit a radio signal that be picked by anyone within 3km of the station.
Docking with the station is relatively easy; long tentacle like tubes can reach as far as 100m out to reach a ships airlock. The tubes have a diameter of 3m on the inside, making them suitable for most visitors. The tubes have normal atmospheric conditions and above freezing temperature, but no gravity, making the plastic ladders very useful.
When finally leaving the tube, a traveller has to be decontaminated in room with gas hoses built into the floor and ceiling. Gravity works fine here, albeit a bit less than standard for Terra.
After decontamination the traveller is met by a station agent receiving payment for use of the station. The agents will instruct the traveller about the rules and regulations for staying on Beran’s Hope.

After having accepted the rules of the station, the traveller is led through a series of tunnels carved into the rock all which leads to a great 0.5m thick sliding gate. The gate gives access to Beran’s Hope Proper.
Beran’s Hope Proper
This is a great cave spanning roughly 250m in diameter and more than 20m high, lighted by cold fluorescent paint; the cave is always dim and shadowy. Makeshift shops and bars form narrow paths up to the Beran’s Coffin, the centre of the cave.
The shops deal with any kind of exotic wares imaginable, from Vesakian spider legs to Eldar dream wine; all is found here at a price. Even exotic hardware can be procured if the price is right.Currency on Beran’s hope is a matter of negotiation; anything goes as long the parties involved accept the deal. The barter system seems to be the preferred method though. Imperial Thrones are valued as a currency though.
Beran’s Coffin is a hotel with tiny coffin like sleeping rooms about the size of 3x1x1m with room for one person. The rooms are arranged in shelves 10 rooms high. The hotel offers private eating cubicles for people in need of privacy.
On top of Beran’s Coffin is the station management, overseeing all trade and commerce. They have several heavy weapons mounted that are pointed in any direction.
A corridor in the far end of the entrance to Beran’s Hope Proper leads to a smaller cave that has an amphitheatre like to it. This is where disputes a resolved in melee combat, and where the occasional slave auction takes place.
Beran’s Hope is visited by all kinds of species and races. Space scum from all over come here to do their dark dealings, and no one is prohibited from entering as long as they adhere to the rules, and pay the entrance fee. It is not uncommon to find that Eldar and Orks set up shop beside each other in here.
No ranged weapons are allowed in the station, and all disputes have to be solved in the arena designed for it. The use champions are allowed, and some even make a living of it.
The station is run by a species called the Ilaki, who hail from a nearby system. They have agents patrolling the station at all times, and are the only ones allowed to carry ranged weapons. They most commonly use needle guns with paralysing poison or their version of a web gun.
The Ilaki have a reputation for being fair and true to their word. The Ilaki has living quarters in an adjacent cave; there is room for at least 100 Ilaki. The Ilaki also maintains a secret landing platform in an old crater, which is used for Ilaki shuttles and small ships.
Payment for visiting the station depends on the ship visiting, but usually ranges from 200 thrones worth of goods a head to 500 thrones. On top of that, the Ilaki takes 10% of the sale of any item sold on the station.

The Ilaki

The Ilaki that run the station are a bipedal species that evolved from plants, hence they are green like orks. They have a more delicate build than most humans, and have no nose or body hair. Instead they breathe through pores in their skin. They can actually take nourishment from from and carbon dioxide if they need to, though this yields very little energy, just enough to survive with no movement. Otherwise they can eat most other stuff, preferably vegetation.
A mostly peaceful race, they avoid conflict whenever possible, instead preferring negotiation and trade. The Ilaki is relatively newcomers to the galactic scene, having been able to travel through space for less than 2000 years; they have yet to perfect long range travel and colonization outside their immediate vicinity.
The Ilaki knows and fears the Imperium, and hope to gain vital knowledge that will enable them to escape the next great expansionist crusade.
